Joshua ‘Melo’ Owino struck twice to steer Dandora Youth FC to a 4-0 win against Nyahururu Griffon FC in the Division 2 league on Sunday. The winger struck either side of a Brian Chege goal as the hosts recorded a 4-0 victory which saw them move into the top four of the Division 2 league albeit temporarily.
The hosts had started on the front foot with midfielder Samuel ‘Kasam’ Njaga getting a chance to open the scoring in the 9th minute, instead flashing it over the crossbar – a tight angle the only thing working in his defense.
The visitors, flashed a shot just wide to show they could threaten if given a chance, but the opportunities would continue to come the way of the hosts. Tyson ‘Eto’ Odhiambo was guilty of a huge miss in the 20th minute with his efforts being saved by Griffon FCs goalkeeper who was on high alert to avert any dangers around his goal area.
Youngster Melo and Captain Brian Chege were especially impressive for Dandora Youth who upped the ante in the last quarter of the half. Melo broke the scoreless deadlock in the 35th minute when he outflanked Nyahururu’s defense and powered the ball into the net past the keeper.
After the break, Eto doubled the lead in the 60th minute when he sneaked into the penalty area and finished off a flick from Meshack Muyonga in front of the net. Defender Edwin Onyango, who had endured a quiet opening 45 minutes drew a smart save out of Griffon’s goalkeeper after the restart with a low drive.
It was Melo again who scored the third goal in the 77th minute from close range. Nyahururu Griffon’s keeper would have no chance as Melo latched onto a loose ball after Griffons defenders failed to clear, dribbling past two defenders before unleashing a fierce shot that ricocheted on the top bar into the net.
Meshack Muyonga who was back in the first eleven after missing out in the last encounter, impressed once more but he fired high and wide as the hosts continued to enjoy their dominance. His efforts would be rewarded in the 80th minute when Feisah Kadir played a defense-splitting pass through to Meshack, who did the rest by rounding Nyahururu Griffon’s keeper and tapping in for what proved to be the last goal of the match.
Dandoara Youth FC, meanwhile, with the likes of Rogers ‘Skiba’ Ochieng fit and Melo on the form of his life, will continue to look up rather than down. They next travel to Muguga on the weekend of June 26th to take on Lucky Stars FC.
